Sepsis And The Way It Infects The Children
Sepsis has no specific area of infection and may crop up in any body part. What happens in sepsis is that the organs of the body of the infected patient start getting targeted by the immune system which is otherwise meant to protect them from external entities. Some of the vital organs that get affected by this disease are the lungs, the kidneys, the brain and most importantly the heart making this illness a fatal one in which the chances of recovery are few.
Even through sepsis can be acquired by anyone, mostly it is seen in the young children and the aged. In both the cases, the immune system is not completely functional leading to more complications. Others are those who are suffering from chronic diseases wherein their organs are already weak and unhealthy.
One of the first symptoms of sepsis is the feeling of lethargy and the inability to eat and drink. One has the feeling of nausea and the body temperature rises. There is an urgent need to get admitted if the subject complains of tiredness and has a high heart beat rate. A delay can lead to a reduced blood pressure and there is a possibility of a cardiac arrest known as the septic shock in this case.

The prevention if sepsis can be done by being responsible towards oneself and practicing hygienic practices. The open wounds should be taken care of by putting antibacterial lotions and vaccinations for prevention from the various bacterial infections should be availed. Those who suffer from low immunity rates should be given medicines to keep their immune system strong.
In the new born children, there are certain indications that if seen should be communicated to the doctor immediately. Instances when the baby is constantly vomiting and at the same time not having food, has fever which only temporarily goes down with the help of medications, the heart rate is rapid and the child is having difficulty in breathing, changes in the skin structure (loftiness), low levels of fluid discharge and constant crying should be immediately taken care of.
In the children who are a bit older, some of the above said traits are not applicable but those that are need to be addressed. There is a very likely possibility that glimpses of these traits are due to some other phenomenon other than sepsis but the tests should still be carried out as a precautionary measure. The symptoms of sepsis are the same and if not caught in time, the problem can aggravate which would not be easy to cure in the later stages.
Sepsis can be cured, if and only if it is found in the beginning when the organs are still not completely affected and the immune system is strong enough to resist the bacterial infection. Use of proper medications supplemented with appropriate measures in health care can lead to the patient being able to lead a healthy life again. It is best although to take precautionary measures and avoid this illness altogether.
